| Welcome to Latshaws Miniature Schnauzers - People ask where Latshaws comes from
I am an only child and was born with Asthma. We had dogs, but I couldn’t ever play with them. Then one day my Aunt sent my parents a miniature schnauzer. At the time, I had a poodle which was hypoallergenic and to our findings, so is the schnauzer. In 1979 as a family we all went to Arizona to visit my Aunt and my father bought me my first show/breeding bitch from my Aunt, Mildred Kramer of Von Roma Kennels. She had been breeding and showing for over 20 years. Well, the bug hit. She showed me how to strip before we left Arizona. After going to a few shows I new I was too inexperienced to do this so soon. We decided to breed Melody and in her first litter she had two bitches. At this point, to register the puppies I needed a kennel name and decided on Latshaws (my maiden name) since my father had bought me this wonderful bitch and the fact there was no one else to carry on the name of Latshaws. Thus the beginning of Latshaws. We have strived to breed to the standard of the miniature schnauzer and for wonder temperament for show or just plain loving.
My first champion was out of one of my bitches from my first litter Ch. Latshaws Midnight Rustler. He was shown and finished by Gloria Lewis in 1986
Gloria was a mentor to me as was Jean Moler (Dufferton Miniature Schnauzers) and Carol Luke Weinberger (Bandsman’s Miniature Schnauzers) With the help of these 3 fine ladies I learned how to strip, groom and show a dog.
My first big thrill of winning was at Montgomery County Kennel Club in 198_ with Argents China Blue who was actually bred out of one of my bitches that I sold Sharon (Sells) Henderson. Sharon was unable to keep China and gave her to me. China with Winners Bitch over 51 other bitches that day and unless you have ever won at this prestige show no one knows the excitement. China finished her championship in January of 198_ and lived with me until her retirement and at this point Sharon was in a different situation and took China back to live out her life of being with Sharon.
I then began showing for other people and continue to show my own dogs.
I am affiliated with the American Miniature Schnauzer Club and the Columbia Terrier Club. I was Show Chairman for the American Miniature Schnauzer Club for Montgomery County Kennel Club Show for 6 years.
